My Mission

My mission is quite simple. There are several issues that I feel need immediate attention, and as your councilman, they will receive my full attention until they are resolved. The issues I plan to address immediately as your councilman are sidewalks, spending, and economic growth for our community.

While there are certainly other issues that require attention, I'd be a fool and a liar to say I can fix everything immediately. I feel that my solution to the sidewalk funding issue is by far the easiest to implement. Although my solution only benefits the 4th Ward, and not the whole city, the other councilmembers are more than free to follow my lead if they wish. If anything, as your councilman, there will be "concrete" proof as to what I've done to help this city.

Spending is a topic that I'll be spending alot of time looking at. With an average of $250,000 a year paid out in overtime, I think it's time to look at other options, be it hiring more people, or looking at changing the pay structure of certain departments. I'll also be looking at every piece of equipment that the city plans on buying. If I feel the current equipment can be repaired at a reasonable cost, I'll vote NO on the purchase of a new one. I feel that there have already been times when the city has bought new instead of repairing, which could have saved the taxpayers a considerable amount of money.

Economic Development is something that I feel is eluding this city. To me, it's not just luring in new business, it's keeping and expanding what you already have. We're not even doing that. In fact, we're going the other way. We need to stop this trend immediately. I'm looking forward to working with the local Chamber of Commerce to find ways and make any necessary changes to expand what we have and to bring new business to this city. If we have to offer free water for 5 years to get a new business here, I say we do it. It's time to start thinking outside of the box. Times are changing, and our goal should be to be ahead of those changes at best, and move with the changes at the least. The last thing we need is to be behind. It's time for some progressive thinking, and if you feel that way also, join me in making some positive changes to this fine city of ours. It's one thing to be proud of your city, it's something else to be able to gloat!!!

To me, there are two kinds of cities. The first kind is the one that sends it's elected officials to other cities to see how they do things. The elected officials come back, hoping to implement ideas they got from the other city, in hopes of improving their own. The second kind of city, is the one that has elected officials from other cities visit it, hoping to use ideas to improve their own. I want to live in, and be part of, the second kind of city. How about you?? My goal is to get you there. Your support is an important part of getting us there. Together, we can all make a difference.
